Informed Delivery at your new address: set it up and use it to spot junk

Informed Delivery is a free Postal Service email showing your incoming letter-size mail and packages. In a new home, it shows whose mail is still coming, and whether today’s mail is worth the walk.

Set it up

  1. Sign up on USPS.com with your new address and verify your identity online. Some Post Offices verify in person.
  2. Already filed a change of address online? Update your Informed Delivery address in the same place.
  3. Your first email arrives in about three business days.

Use it to clean up

  • Names: list everyone who isn’t your household, then ask senders to drop them. How →
  • Senders: opt out of the advertisers that show up most. The 30-minute fix →
  • Days: all ads and no packages? Skip the walk.
What it shows, and what it doesn’t
  • Black-and-white images of the address side of letter-size mail, plus color images of some catalogs and magazines.
  • Only machine-sorted mail is pictured, so larger envelopes and many catalogs won’t appear.
  • No email on Sundays, federal holidays or days with no mail.
Apartments and condos

Some buildings aren’t eligible yet, because each unit’s mailbox needs its own code in the Postal Service’s system. Check back later.
